Anyone notice the price of Diesel lately?

I couldn't believe it hit $4.20 a gallon. Unleaded is running $3.30.

Diesels are not cheaper than gasoline to run anymore.

I would hate to be an independent trucker with Diesel fuel prices like this.

The really scary part is just about everything we buy is trucked at some point. I expect the price of pretty much all consumable goods except maybe local produce to increase significantly over the next few months.

Diesel gets better fuel economy making diesel still better than gas. A friend of mine is an intown trucker and uses 3400.00 per month to do his work, and now has to raise his rates to afford everything else. Guess what inflation is comming.

You can thank the EPA's ULSD regs for that one.

Diesel costs 27% more than unleaded gasoline. In the case of my Jetta, the gasser gets about 27mpg while the diesel gets about 47mpg (according to user data on www.fueleconomy.gov). Diesel cars are still cheaper, and will probably be that way for a long while. Doesn't make me any less pissed that diesel fuel prices are skyrocketing, but...

all the more reason tto get a cheaper diesel car and run biodesel

In many cases diesels get DOUBLE the FE.... So diesel would have to reach $6.60 a gallon to match the cost comparison of $3.30 gas.

My 1 ton diesel van loaded down with equipment gets 23mpg in town,

My 3/4 ton GAS van gets 10mpg with the same equipment in it, thats more than double the FE.

Oh... and my diesel is a vegetarian, so it costs me about $30/month to drive 450 miles a week around earning my income, VS $500+ to run my Gas.

Actually, remember the other year, there was the introduction of mandatory ethanol in some states and the switch to summer gas at the same time and supplies ran short in the mid-west and there was a temporary spike unrelated to oil prices. That could be what we're seeing with the ULSD switch.

Come down here! The highest diesel got here was 3.999, and during that time most other stations were 3.959. And now, it's back down to 3.899!

atomicradish 03-23-2008 04:25 PM

Diesel here is 3.99 a gallon versus 3.21 a gallon for regular unleaded.

I remember when they used to be almost the same price.
