CRX SiR for economy?

Looking at this:

https://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...74602.htm?p=25

Maybe a little bit over my budget. In NZ, the only fuel injected CRXs seem to be the 'fast' ones, so, if I get one I might end up getting something like this.

How good would one these be for economy? It is only 1.6, and has the same aerodynamics and light weight as the carb CRXs, and is manual.

edit - does anyone know if this cheap one

is fuel injection / compatible with SuperMID? :)

Well, the one thing I know about the B16 is that I had one in a 1988 SI and it sucked gas like a mother, got, at most, 25 miles per gallon, maybe it was just a bad swap or something but i wasn't getting any good mileage out of it, it was a blast to drive though

if quickness is your goal, thats a perfect fit. a B16 in a crx is one of the cheapest+fastest combo you can get since the swap is cheaper than a gsr, and the crx weighs less than 2000 pounds

for fe, stay away from it.. just like what dave1215 said, it will be about 25 mpg on premium

I knew someone from my highschool days who had a part time job and a civic vx, lives 25 mines from school. after saving enough money from extra hours from summer, he bought a B16 swap. right after that he never really hung out or did something fun because his 50 mpg vx became a 25 mpg vx on premium, so its more than double for gas, and he never floors the thing because of gas prices (premuim). so its a worthless swap :(

also hes 10x as paranoid since he has a DOHC VTEC under the hood

where does all the fuel go? if it is highish compression 1.6 running at 14.7:1?

landspeed 04-06-2008 12:29 AM

looks like i need to stick to my square 2.0i auto bluebird for economy then! need to look into cheap manual gearbox swaps and extreme aero mods.

Although i bet i would get better MPG; Im getting 29mpg with extreme hypermiling in this car!

its just the fact that the B16 transmission is one of the shortest gears around, its the shortest for the B series also. at 60 mph its at like 3000 rpm. also its running on premium, so you would need to pay more for that

Dave1215 04-06-2008 03:31 PM

yep, the gearing on the transmission is terrible

landspeed 04-06-2008 09:41 PM

ok!

currently looking at a manual version of my car - if it goes for cheap!

Yes, it's fuel injected. That's either a twin cam ZC, a D16A8 or A9... They're pretty much all the same engine. If the SuperMID is compatible with other '88-91 fuel injected Hondas, this one should be no different.
