65 MPH Zone Speed?

What speed do you usually go in 65 MPH zones?

GasSavers_ALS 04-08-2008 07:49 AM

I don't drive over 65 mph. Even in 70 mph zones I run 65 mph.
Now had you asked about 55-60 mph zones I would have said in most cases I'm running 62-65 mph.

Cars, usually in the 68 to 72 range to keep up in the regular flow of traffic. Very safe speed that keeps one moving at a similar speed to most regular interstate drivers.

Bus and trailer, I'll usually go a little slower. A lot bigger profile.

I don't have cruise control and my foot has this 'spot' that is comfortable for me to drive on the freeway at. It used to be that the spot kept me at about 65-70mph but I've added some stuff that's increased the efficiency of the engine by a fairly good margin so I'm normally at 80-85 now, I just haven't readjusted.

Now that's on the open road, when I'm in traffic I keep with the flow. Going slower than traffic is a good way to get rear ended in most places.

about 63mph.I'll let it lose down to 55mph as I'm going up a hill instead of giving it more gas. Then get back up to speed on the down or flat part. I don't try to keep up with the "flow of traffic" as there are those doing 75mpg and others doing 90mpg. There are always at least two other lanes for all that in a 65 zone.

Funny. I was just laughing at myself about this very idea this morning. 2 months ago, my answer would be 71-75, or 76+. This morning I found doing 58 in a 60, and I thought I was burning too much gas.
What have you people done to me?

lol yup, in IL interstates are 65 limit. we usually go around 65-70. id say 70-80% of the other cars (even semis somewhat) are doing the same.

when we get near a big city we just go whatever fits in with the traffic in the far right 2 lanes.sometimes faster, sometimes slower.

its fast enough to not hinder anyone but not too fast to attract the attention of the police that LOVE to prey on speeding morons:p

And interstates in IL limit tractor trailers and RV's to 55MPH. Back to not attracting attention, I'll usually go 55 to 62MPH in Illinois in the bus.

Incontinence pads...

Ooops, I mean...

Depends...

Limit is 100kph here, 62mph, left to my own devices in light traffic, I'll just bumble along at about 55-58mph 95kph, there's a "sweet spot" there.

Then if I'm drafting trucks, I'm usually finding I'm going at 105-110kph

In heavy traffic nearer the big TO, it gets a bit nutsy, because they keep branching the right lanes off to nether regions of the metropolises diseased underbelly, and everyone else is doing 120ish, so I find I have to step it up to 110-115kph to have a right to stay in the middle lane and not get shunted off, or shunted into by merging traffic. You just don't save gas by going 55mph/95kph-ish in this kind of traffic, coz you continually have to hammer it to move over and merge into 120kph lanes safely. So you just have to try to go as slow as doesn't piss ppl off too much in the middle lane to keep a steady speed.

60-65 mph in the roach Honda. Its spinning 3k rpm at 62 mph (Si model)
70-75 mph in the Impala, when I do drive it on the freeway. About once a week or so.
