Replacement gas tank for 92 VX?!

Well, I discovered something today that definitely affects my FE, my gas tank has a slow leak! Rusted out and seeping, so repair is probably not feasible.

Looked around some, found new 92-95 Civic tanks in the $60-70ish range, BUT not for the HB. Will the 13.5 gallon tank fit the VX?

Anyone had to do this before, and have suggestions?

Thanks!

But I'd probably have to swap out the fuel intake/sending unit, right? Or would the VX unit work OK in the bigger tank?

VetteOwner 04-09-2008 09:56 PM

dont see why it wouldnt, you range would increase... all the sender does is essentially a float that move sup and down with the fuel level, modern guages ahev built in compensation so it stays at a somewhat level rate whiel your driving. thats why when u go uphill you magically gain gas!!! :)

in ye olden days, if you were at 1/2 tank and turned hard it would read zero...

Yeah, I may try the existing fuel pump and sending unit, see if I get any anomalies.

We had an old 1-1/2 ton Ford flatbed that'd show empty after a hard turn. Shortly after that the gas gauge quit working altogether, and we started carrying an extra can of gas with us...

The sender/pump should be just fine in the larger tank.

Any update on the swap?

I will have to change mine to and I want to know if I only need the tank or I have to foud also:
-Strap
-filler neck
-fuel pump assy
-fuel gauge assy
-...

I want to replace my 10 gallons by install the 13.5 gallon tank.

Does the 92-95 coupe or sedan tank fit or only any 92-95 HB fit?

Thanks

Anybody do the swap here?

Just want to be shure to buy the good part before starting this.

AlainB7 09-10-2008 02:56 AM

I found all these info and drop this here for futur info.

These 3 tank of 92-95 civic can be swap without any fitting or part needed.

10 gallons/35 litres USDM CX/VX
11.9 gallons / 45 litres DX/SI/Canadian CX
13.5 gallons / 51 litres

So you can install a 51l tank in a VX or any 92-95 HB/coupe/sedan tank. All the around part is the same. No need to change strap, filler neck, ...

The Spectra premium tank are 13.5 gallons tank. The part number is ho9 and direct fit on any Civic 92-95.

Info from Spectra Premium web site:

https://prod.spectra-ssl.com/PROD/app...P_VERS=1.07.01

Just enter ho9 in part number o see all the application fo that tank.

Since my VX was taken from this world prematurely I will say with the z1 in the Del Sol which has the 11.9 tank, I love how long/far I can go without filling up! I'd say its good upgrade if you need to replace your tank anyways!
