Wheel Bearing Help

need to replace front wheel bearings on my chevy prizm. never done this on a FWD car, so i'm looking for help.

it seems that the bearing assembly is cheaper than the bearing alone(at this sight). any reason why besides brand? is it better/cheaper/easier to just put in the assembly? can i assume it is pregreased with a good quality grease? what about seals, are they already pressed?

it looks like 3 bolts hold the hub/bearing assembly in. nice and easy. those bearings are sealed and if it did come separate you would need a 2-3 ton hydraulic press to press out the bearing from the hub and if the original bearing was bad it could of tore up parts that is was pressed into.

I'm not sure what wheel bearing grease they have installed but the seals are part of the bearing. just make sure you pick the right one with or without abs.

not knowing anything about this car since it is essentially a toyota corrolla, what to buy is confusing to me. my experience with wheel bearings has been domestic RWDs.

there are...wheel bearings(only),wheel bearing assemblies, hub assemblies, and wheel hub assemblies. :confused:

don't know what to order!

Depending on the FWD you either press or unbolt the bearing from the spindle.

Sometimes it's cheaper just to bolt in the entire thing instead of pressing on the part that has the lugs in it, but other times the bearing is a lot cheaper.

I would call around some local parts store for prices since for my car which I was pricing a front wheel bearing for it ranged from $40-$170 for the same exact part. :eek:

I would probably go to the parts store and look at the different parts on the computer they have there, the people there might have a better idea as to what is what by name exactly.

And on some imports they have sealed front bearings, so in that case, yet, they should be greased, or at least I'd hope. :)
