Telling the consumer what to buy is a terrible idea from any point of view other than that of a busybody or a company with a monopoly. Building true gas sippers is fine, but building too many would have been a death sentence for any manufacturer who did; they never would have survived until now when it's much more feasible. They built what the market would buy.

Except in a monopolistic market, the buyers are in control.
