Dodge Viper belly pan
 

I had a look at a Dodge viper underneath while the truck driver was loading up a truck from our job site today. I took some pictures with my phone, although they didn't turn out so well.

The engine oil pan is already made smooth.

The rear flow fences kind of fan out towards the wheels.

The pictures don't show much past the truck ramps, but even the Viper could probably use more belly pans. Not that FE is a big part of owning a Viper...
What would be the purpose of fanning out the flow fences?

You gotta love the Viper. I just can't get over how hot they get inside. That darn 8.3 liter V10 tends to put off a bit of heat! Still an awesome car though.

the rear diffuser is probably more for downforce and the fins are to stabilize the airflow to creat a more constant low presure system.

is that all factory?? if so kudos to dodge for ironing things out. i remember the original viper convertables had some horrible .cd like .4+

anyone knows what the little plate in pictures 1-2-4 is? the little thing with the cut of corners that's held in place by two screws that angles upwards?

given te relative crudeness of the setup (sure it's nicely done but compared with the top of the car it all still looks mideval to me) i'm wondering what difference it would make? perhaps break cooling airflow, but it looks out of place for that? so maybe it is there to protect something sensitive?

I couldn't see much reason for the metal plate other than maybe direct air flow on to the exhaust pipes. I was interested in the air duct that starts ahead of the exhaust pipes that come across the car. It seems to go over the top of the exhaust and exit out the vent in the rear bumper. I wonder if it is to help keep the floor boards cool, or maybe it uses the low pressure behind the car to suck the middle of the car down to the road.:p

To blow girls skirts up as you pass by of course...Does one NEED any other reason?

This just goes to show the difference between us and the general public.
While everyone else is trying to see what the body of the car looks like, we are trying to peer under it. :)

I went to a car dealership the other day and started looking underneath the cars. The salesman came out and shood me away. They must have thought I was trying to cut the brake lines or something.

I seem to remember the current Viper now having a .35 Cd ( the coupe not the convertible. )

right, the coupe has a much better slope behind the cockpit, but i still think they should be able to get the viper down into the sub .3 range...
