My new Hyundai Accent

Well, so far I'm pleased with my new little car. I enjoy driving it more than my F150 and $11,300 for a brand new car with aircon, pwr steering, rear defrost and cd isn't bad. I managed to get 33 mpg on my first tank of gas and 34 mpg on my second tank. It's an 08 3 door with manual trans. I'd say I drove 70% highway on the last tank at about 60-65 mph average.

It seems that 30+ MPG seems to be the target on here for nearly any vehicle. Congrats on beating that milestone - keep us posted. Since it's a new vehicle, you may want to do a review. People really love reading them.

Congrats on your new car! I have a 96 Accent w/165K. My father bought one new in 96, and it ran over 200K miles w/o a breakdown ever. I've been able to get more than 40 MPG out of mine. The car isn't geared the best for FE. (From what I understand, still isn't today.) Don't know what the newer ones are capable of. Mine doesn't have power steering or AC. Also has 155 wide tires on 13 inch rims. I think it's 175s on 14s today.

My wife and I are starting to think about replacing her Ford Probe. I'd love to see a review as well when you've had some time on the car.

I used to have a 4 cyl Probe. It was a prety fuel efficient car itself.

WOW! I was really shocked this morning. I just checked my mileage for the 3rd time this morning. This tank I drove very conservatively for about 240 miles and then, since it's basically broke in (950 miles on the car), I drove it pretty hard, fast starts, 75mph on the interstate, downshifting etc. till I had 350 miles on the tank. I filled up and got 38 MPG on this tank! :D That was on 87 octane with 10% ethanol.

I'm really really pleased with that and expect to able to get 40 mpg with conservative driving after a few more tanks.

This tank I filled up with 89 octane just to see what I get.

If your owners manual tells you to use 87 octane you probably won't see any better mileage with 89 octane. One of the guys who works for me get a consistent 33 mpg with his and he doesn't try to hypermile. I drove the car once and thought it was on par, quality and funwise, with my old 88 Civic DX. That Civic was one heck of a good little car.

The only reason I bought the 89 octane was because it didn't have ethanol in it. I wanted to try straight gasoline one time.

You're doing very good! And it should get better as you get more miles on the car. I noticed a spike in the mileage on mine around 6,000 miles. If things keep going like they seem to be, you could be in the 40's by then. ;) I'm looking forward to seeing how your mileage turns out as time goes on.
