A couple VX questions
 
I have a 1992 VX California emissions. As some of you may be aware, all '92s came with the 5-wire sensor. The Cali. car just had a different ECU that didn't implement lean burn. I bought a Federal ecu to switch on lean burn.

Well, mine is throwing a code 48 (lean fuel sensor). I called by local import parts supplier and they want $550 for the 5-wire sensor. I knew they were pricey, but I thought $200-300, not $550!

So now I'm considering swapping to a 4-wire sensor and using the Cali. ecu.

2 questions:

1. Does anyone have a source for cheaper 5-wire sensors?

2. Can anyone help me with the 4-wire conversion? I know this is backwards from the way most people around here convert a VX.

Especially since you already have the Federal ECU, I think you're making a mistake to switch back to 4-wire. If your VX is in decent shape, it should maintain good resale value (unless gas suddenly gets ultracheap hahaha), and it will be worth more to the next owner with the right sensor. And it will also save you gas, in the meantime.

I would look for the L1H1. I suppose the L2H2 will work, but I think you will have to put some extra effort into wiring the connector (instead of just plugging it in).

If you look around, you should be able to find the L1H1 for $150-200. Maybe less.

Here's another.. a little more pricey than that one mini-e found, but a member on another forum I'm on purchased one for his VX to CRX spaw and it worked out great for him... personally I'd go with the one in the other post because I'm cheap like that, but here's just another option.

I agree that the cheap one is tempting. I'm just not totally convinced that the L1H1 and the L2H2 are really perfectly interchangeable.

I bought the one Monroe listed ($177 shipped) for my 92 CA version VX which was fitted with a Federal ECU. Runs great, no CEL, and just passed CA smog with flying colors. It works! ;)

I just posted this a minute ago in another thread. I bought a genuine Honda L1H1 from a guy on ebay for $150. They're expensive from the factory. Apparently he bought it years ago and never used it.

I have a CA VX. I'm going to do the ca-fed conversion. I got the ecu and now the l1h1 sensor. Where in CA are you? perhaps we can get together to do this conversion together.

Hi Gary, welcome back. I think you were away from the forum for a while.

A while back (http://www.gassavers.org/showpost.ph...5&postcount=40) I tried to answer some of your questions. So I would be glad to continue to do that (in that thread or this one), if you need some help.
