Skeptic HHO TEST

I really don't know how to start this, but I want to do a test with HHO injection for myself, the believers, and non-believers and skeptics. I'm sure everyone knows the idea of HHO injection is very attractive, especially since a barrel of oil is over 140 dollars and above 4.30 at the pump. This is what has made me want to persue this. This stuff is very, VERY, simple to build and install. Then not so simple part is messing with sensors and leaning fuel out. And of course, the one question is... how much GAIN with the hho injection. Right now its been sitting around the 30 MPG mark. But there have been so many damn inconsistancies and variables to tweak this damn system, it's hard to be accurate.

My goal is to make a system that does NOT need to be maintained every day, week, or month. And I finally, think I have that part down just fine. It might be a little overboard with 4 cells, but I can live with that.

Yesterday, I installed a pot on the Intake Air Temp sensor. It did not go well and I had to bring the truck back home and take the escort. I really wanted to tear everything I've been doing for the last 3 months out of the truck, because of course, a vehicle that doesn't move is not worth the time of d*cking with hho (meaning if its the problem... I'm ripping the SOB out).

So, after a couple more runs, I will have my setup back to the operation that I want. I am so much more willing do prove/disprove this meathod of hho injection. I have other things to do then spin my wheels. The one thing I want people to understand when i start doing these test is that I am right in the middle of believe and non-believe. So, please constructive criticism only. I want to do this the right way. I understand this is tedious and will take plenty of time.

I'm also sure that I have exhausted every possible tweaking on my truck possible, so, I will be leaving everything the same. So, within the oncomming weeks I will be getting my ducks in a row and will be getting ready to do this. As some of you said, it's time to put up or shut up./

just start a gas log. that is what most of us want. we don't want data over 10 miles or 20 miles, we want it over hundreds if not thousands of miles. if you look at my gas log you will see just that. 4-500 miles on a tank and then data. also data with and without the HHO on.

be careful with all of the sensor adjusters though. most of them lean out your air/fuel ratio so if you do this too much, bad things happen. best case, your ECU gets confused and you use too much fuel because you are in open loop. worst case, detonation and stuff starts to melt.

also, I have the same engine as you in my cav. but I have a 4spd auto. my best tank has been over 37mpg. good luck on your quest.

I'm interested in how it goes. seems like everyone either is just spamming it or they're going to try it and are never heard from again.

I'm just outside chicago in the cornfields off 88 if you ever want to meet up or fix something.

That won't be a problem. The only thing is that I just want to get everyting running correctly. If I could get some advise from you on your HHO setup, that would be great. So many times you see people doing this, or about to, but you never get any hard core results. Plus, when people do those 10-50 mile tests, there is so much room for error and makes everything a little unbelievable.

Could you tell me if you are adjusting any sensors? And where you are injecting the gas. I know where a lot of people suggest and have done the whole pcv thing, but im not sure.

Plus, are you hypermiling at all with your setup?

Finally, thanks for your replies.

my best recommendation is if you are going to install an HHO setup use the online garage on this site, and get a couple of tanks of fuel through before you install the HHO, that way everyone can see what effect the system has on your mileage. Its real easy to track your mileage online here. I just get a receipt and I write my trip odometer reading on the receipt, then reset it. When I get home I just input the fuel purchase online and the mileage is calculated and charted.

I have one setup on my volvo with 3 cells and 2 outputs. One output hose leads to a breather hose which sucks a TON of air on idle. This hose usualy is connected to the airbox but I am running a high flow air filter on my car so I put the end of that hose right into the hho output hose. It starved the engine of some necessary air on idle so I drilled a hole about a 1/2" in diameter in the breather hose and put a threaded air compressor fitting in the hole to add some air to the mix. The second hose is teed into a hose on the intake manifold which (i think) is for gas vapor from the tank (or something like that, I had my girlfriends grandfather help me and he's a seasoned mechanic). I've experienced a small jump from 19.4 to 22 mpg at first and then after applying the driving techniques i learned here I got a best fill up of 29.5 (I think that's what it was just check my gas log) and that was when I started tracking my mileage on here, before that I was tracking it myself every time I filled up my tank. I'm currently working on getting my o2 sensor out so I can put in an isolator (non-fouler for a spark plug from auto zone), but my dang sensor doesn't wanna come out no matter what I do (I think I'm gonna end up breaking it or something...)

lol oops it's in my signature! haha just read that...

You can't test HHO or other technical type mods IF you use driving techniques at the same time? The only valid testing would involve LaPointes 100 miles and and 100 miles back to the same pump? or a Scan gauge? or a regular route used daily..full tank mpg?

theholycow 07-13-2008 07:51 AM

Well, you can't test mods (or driving techniques or anything else) accurately if you don't have controlled conditions. So, if you use the same driving techniques for both sides of the test it's fine.

collegekid01 07-13-2008 02:47 PM

yeah it was a full tank fill up (or at least a near full tank) Whatever though you can try to make up as many excuses for it as you want but it happened and I have the numbers to prove it.
