93 Del Sol Si in North Carolina

Hello,

My name is Tony and I am a student at UNC Charlotte. During the school year I commute about 65 miles each way back and forth to school 5 days a week. My previous car was a 1989 Civic Hatchback standard (no a/c, power nothing, not even a clock in the dash. Car was super light and had a D15B1 and dual point fuel injection and a 4 speed manual. With headers, 2.5" exhaust and a straight through muffler, ground wires and 175/70/13 tires at 38psi I was averaging 45mpg. A deer decided that it wasn't the best car for me and took out most of the front end.

So I drove my wife's car and watched Craigslist and for about 3 months looking for a replacement when I stumbled accross a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si for $700. This car has a D16z6 vtec engine and power everything, cruise control, a/c, the works. The car looked brand new but the owner said it had a broken piston. I brought it home and tore into the engine to find it did indeed have a hole in the number 3 piston. So I replaced the pistons with higher compression slugs, threw on some ebay headers because the stock manifold was cracked and started driving it back and forth to work with a little less than $1k invested.

Now I am on the quest for fuel economy to rival my previous DD while still looking cool and riding comfortably. Check my garage for current and planned mods. I will keep my gaslog updated regularly.

Any special hints and tips are appreciated.

good luck on your quest for better FE

I used to work on my hondas, I've had an 89accord, 88accord and a 99 Si in that order. Great cars. Now Im sportin' the Torque Monster. A 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder, Geo Metro convertible. Chicks dig it...not really, but I do. Hit me up, maybe I can help.
