Pontiac Sunfire
Just thought I'd mention my gf has one of these and she drives it like a bat outa hell, and she gets lower thirties in mpg! It's shaped generally like an egg So it's really aero, and has some smallish grill openings. It'll coast forever too! I was surprised to see no one on here has one... oh well.

pontiac's version of the cavalier. there are a few cavs out there and yea it will get pretty good gas mileage. my best fill has been 38+ that I consider. I did have one weird tank that yielded me 40 but the next tank blew so I don't consider that 40 yet.
it has potential. |
I had one years ago. I bought it as a commutor vehicle and had it about 2 years. I put a lot of high speed highway miles on it and as I reacall it got mid 30's mpg and I didn't baby it. Probably could have done a lot better with the mpg if I really tried. I just did the regular oil changes and put new tires on it. It never broke down on me.
Sorry I can't be any better help. |
I'd say this qualified as a hypermile sleeper. Fueleconomy.gov reports 21/24/31 for a 2000 Sunfire 2.2l 5 speed manual. I'll go over to that thread and post quotes from this one...

I just broke 40 mpg with my 2001 Cavalier (Sunbird's brother). I agree theholycow this is a sleeper. Cheap to buy, run and maintain. What more do you want?
