Actually, this brings up a question. What is the purpose of steering wheel lock anyway??? Is it supposed to be anti-theft or something else?

Yeah but doesn't the MID use the VSS signal from the ECU? When you shut off your engine doesn't the MID lose contact with the ECU for a second or two until you key back on? Or does your ECU have...
