Actually, it's a 2002 Hyosung, under the name Alpha Sports- but, who cares- they haven't changed since 1978 when they were introduced in some markets. New to the US in 2002, it was very well received due to it's large size frame, lots of chrome, alloy wheels, and tons of features from fuel gauge to tachometer! 13,000 RPM redline, smooth as butter with no vibrations at any speed, it's so quiet, no one ever knows that you are even around. When fully 'dressed' it looks like a vintage 1950's American cruiser and you start looking for a dirty beatnik in leathers, even though it's max speed is a mere 85MPH, and, that's downhill with a breeze at your back! In burgandy/cream with every possible modification except tassles- it needs a large, classic windshield to complete the look. But, I'm unwilling to remove the chrome lightbar- 'cause it looks to good!
Used as a trainer (2 teenaged boys and my wife are learning on it, while getting ready to take the MSF course) it has been a favorite since it's arrival. I use it occassionally, to keep the carbs clean, and, after the season gets too cold. It's great in snow,on ice, and, in any low traction situation, as it has very few HP & modest torque at best. Thankfully, it runs just fine below 5,000 RPM, where little HP & torque is, thereby keeping me upright. Heated grips help down to around 40 degrees- below that, I just don't ride! It's been very dependable, has no electrical issues & has only needed a new front brake caliper. Although few miles get on it,it gets around 7MPG- which means it should be my primary bike!
