Due to lack of internet and other issues I have been not made any entries in nearly 2 months. I am adding all the receipts that I have to see if any of it works out.

Well it's been a month since I recorded and fuelings. I've been in a major personal transition and keep track of this MPG has become a low priority (not that anyone is paying attention.) So I have 2 past fuel up to add now which will be dated to the receipts. Hopefully I can get back on track.

May 20 2013

Well since my trip to western Kentucky last month, where I managed a little over 35 MPG, my overall average has been 29-30 MPG, with a low of 27+. Part of it is my driving technique has shifted. I am rarely ever driving more than 5 MPH over any posted speed limit. There have been a couple of occasion where I've gone beyond this limit, but I've pretty much kept to it. I know if I slowed down more it would improve my mileage more, but a man can only do so much against his nature. I have to say I'm pleased.

So a partial fuel up apparently doesn't calculate MPG. So I am assuming it automatically adds it into the next complete fuel up. We'll see later this weekend.

It's just curious to me that in the same couple of days I get the worst MPG I've seen yet and the best. I rarely had that fluctuation in any other car before.

SO this trip was a total of 572 miles. I kept speed no more than 5 MPH over posted speed limits, used cruise almost exclusively, used no AC driving down on Friday and very little today. I feel better with 35 MPG, but I believe the car could do even better if I could slow down. I believe at 60 MPH there is the potential to achieve as much as 37 MPG. But that isn't likely the way I drive. Still some what disappointed with city MPG; it seems like the 2001 Camry and the 1995 Accord and 95 Camry all did better in town. But none of them could get this kind of highway mileage, although the 1995 Accord got 33 once and the 2001 Camry got 32 once. As always, the faster you drive the less fuel economy you get.

Apr 10 2013

SO I'm taking a trip this weekend. This will be a real opportunity to check best MPG for this Accord. I'm driving the 1st leg tonight, 230 miles or so, to Kentucky Dam Village. I will return by a different route on Sunday with 2 stops, one in Henderson and one in Louisville. The leg to Henderson is about 100 miles, then 135 to Louisville, then another 45 miles home. That is what is planned at this point, but plans can vary. Hope to keep speed down to maximize MPG (35+ MPG?), but I have got a lead foot (which is why I love cruise). Length of this trip means a fill up will be required at some point in route. It looks like cool weather so no AC use is anticipated and minimal heat, so this may be a chance to really test max MPG. terrain is somewhat hills going down and more so coming back through Indiana, which will also effect MPG. Stand by for updates.

Had my mechanic install new catalytic converter today. Cost less than $400; Honda dealler wanted over $900. Napa parts, no problem. We'll see if this improves MPG any. This was the first time my guy had seen or driven this car. He liked it.

EPA estimates are way optimistic for this car. Having new cat conv installed tomorrow, may move ahead with a tune up earlier than Honda recommends. But the car is nice to drive, although I still think Camrys are smoother. Damn engine check light went out again.

Just discovered the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I'm hoping for better MPG after, but not a lot.

Initially I was very disappointed with MPG. I was comparing it to the 2001 Camry (manual) I just got out of and the 1995 Accord (manual) I have for my daughter. That's how I discovered this website, doing research on MPG.
