New Fram Oil Filter

I remember reading a few years ago how Fram was one of the worst store bought oil filters out there... PureOne was one of the best. If they changed their manufacturing then maybe I'll go back to them. I always liked Fram b/c of their grip top but switched after reading the article.

who really knows? stats and studies can be manipulated. and products of all brands improve over time.

i've heard by experience(mechanics) that altho pureone filters well, they can come apart.

i use wix, who's warranty covers engines against product defect.

he considers wix just as good, but w/ better flow as the filter gets used and traps more particles.

good link! it confirms my choice of wix as the best bang for the buck.

I did the same as you after reading about Fram years ago...but to be fair with Fram, I have not heard about a bunch of trashed motors due to using their filters either. Still, my personal preference has been Wix, and NAPA filters. And besides, I don't miss the "grip top" as I use a cap wrench and ratchet now exclusively as it is just so easy a 10 year old can change your oil/filter.

I use SuperTech filters. They are made by Champion who also makes Autozone's premium Bosch filters and a couple of others.

i buy whatever i can find cheapest, i change it so often it doesnt matter anyways

Rusty uses some really vintage Fram filters. Back when I used to have my 74 Chevy truck I was in a store and they were clearing out their automotive department, they were getting out of that business. Oil filters were $0.25/ea. I bought every last one they had left that fit my Buick, the truck, and my great aunt's Towne Car. Total I bought about 20 or 25 filters. I still have a few truck filters. They're early 90's vintage filters.

I've also heard bad things about Fram filters, but I used the for years back in the 70's and 80's and never had any oil or filter related troubles. I had a friend tell me several years ago about someone they know who had a filter come apart on their car and destroy the engine. If I remember correctly he said it was a Wix filter. I'm in the same category as Jay, I have about 50 or 60 filters for a Ford Escort where I have bought at different stores when they were going to no longer be selling oil filters. Most of them were bought for about $.35 up to $1.00 each. They are all various brands so I keep the ones that I think are better filters for the '97 wagon and '02 sedan and use the others on the '88 and it's still going with 489K+ miles. I have three Escorts so they will eventually get used up.

Yeah, I'm sure the filters I have would fit The Beast as well because it has a 350, so its got the same engine block as my other 2 trucks. Its just that I've been so busy with my business that I just take it in and have the oil changed.
