Price: $3,200,000*
Production: only 275 will be made
Engine: 1.6L V-6 turbo hybrid
Power: 1,000hp combined

*The engine will require a re-build after 20,000 miles which will cost about $1.5 million. Before you think that's ridiculous, the people that have money to buy this car will barely drive it, so I doubt that any of these cars will ever reach that mileage. The highest mileage 2013 Ferrari LaFerrari in the USA has around 5,000 miles.

The 1.6L V-6 engine in the Mercedes F1 car produces about 900hp during the race, and about 1,200hp during qualifying. Not bad from a small 1.6L turbo engine with a small battery pack.

I heard about this recently, they restricted the engine to "just" 11,000 rpm, instead of the usual 20,000 or so. Same size engine as mine, maybe I can get another 700 bhp with a bit of tuning!

The F1 engines are limited to 15,000rpm; also the fuel flow rate is limited during the race so that's the main reason the power is just 900hp during the race. They can use as much fuel during qualifying as they wish.

I love small displacement high revving engines. My Yamaha R1 revs to 14,750rpm and now has 16,000 miles on it and never missed a beat.

I bet your Peugeot could easily get another 100hp with some ECU tune and high flow cats. I saw the new Renault Megane RS, looks fantastic; kind of like your previous car. Nowadays it's harder to remove weight from any car; so a smaller engine weighing less is a huge benefit. The new TVR is a perfect example of how you go about building a modern sports car.

The TVR's 5.0L V8 is not what I'd call a small displacement engine.

Yes I am loving the new RS, possibly my next car, we'll see. Engines are getting smaller and smaller, some of the new Mercedes-Benz have 1.2 litre engines now.

What MB model has a 1.2 Litre engine? Smallest I've seen advertised is the 1461cc.

Like a lot of Mercedes-Benz engines, they are actually Renault engines. The 1.6 litre will have 406 bhp, and I thought mine was powerful for its size!
