When I worked in California in the mid-'80s, a colleague had a 1971, pre-federal spec big-block Corvette C3, and I was allowed to drive it. Amazing. Four on the floor and so much power you could spin the wheels in the first three gears, despite aftermarket wide wheels (he had the originals in his garage).
Despite 25 years driving manuals, I had been driving an auto for three weeks, and at the first red light, I tried to stop without depressing the clutch. A 454 cu in (7.4 litres) V8 takes some stalling.
