I got an EV!

http://www.legioncontrols.com/detr500wastr.html
not the actual pic but its the same.

No its not a car. But the price was right, I bartered an 1 1/2 of work. Its got a 500w 24volt motor, controller, throttle, lights, its fully functional. It will go about 10mph. My yard sale batteries died after traveling 30ft, I'm going to try charging them in the morning. I intend to rob the parts off of it for my bike conversion. I'm having trouble with it throwing the chain.

Maybe!

Question. What voltage should a 24volt pack be showing when fully charged?

My worn out and abused pack reads 26.7V --- ~13.3ish volts per battery (2) These are two small gel cells

I had to do quite a lot of wiring repair to get it going. The PO had it worked on at batteries america. When I fixed the charging circuit this morning the polarity was reversed. All the colors were matched correctly. I made the mistake of not testing the output before hooking everything up. When I hit the charge switch the charger sizzled and started smoking. The funny thing is that apparently the charger was unhurt. I had the controller unplugged so everything should be fine. Its charging now I should be able to test drive after lunch.

What should be the minimum voltage before damage to the cells? The batteries were weak before I started. I was getting 24.3volts after a spotty charging and 2 month sit on the shelf.

I tested it out today. It really will go 8-10mph. Its got a range of about 5 minutes at full throttle. I'm going to balance the pack tomorrow.
