Ave MPG higher than best ever

http://www.fuelly.com/driver/tonedep...ara?fu=1198771

It's an old car, but now there's a "best in garage feature" it's screaming out at me every time I log on.

How is the "average" 53mpg when the "best" was 46?!

I can see it's down to the last fill being a 'partial fuel up', but that shouldn't affect the figures at all, surely?

Yeah, partials do affect your overall mileage because we count all fuel-ups when calculating mileage. That's why this situation can happen once in a while.

We calculate average MPG by taking all miles driven divided by total gallons filled. With your car that's 751 total miles / 14.098 uk gallons. That gives us 53 MPG even though no individual fuel-up is that high.

Over time, including partial fills gives us a more accurate picture of your average than leaving them out. Once someone has a couple dozen fuel-ups this rarely comes up.

I'm consumed by curiosity - why refuel after only 18/50/32/etc miles?
