Re: lamp and candle oil

Other than burning it in a lamp the only thing I might consider using it for is bar oil in a chain saw. I would not add it to any engine oil or engine fuel supply.

Re: Extra Compressor Oil

Likely too thin for bar oil.
It may just be kerosene or kerosene substitute. Unless it's scented, I would use it for bbq starter fluid if you didn't have a lamp.

Re: Extra Compressor Oil

No way I'd use a random oil for BBQ starter fluid, wouldn't want it potentially getting in food.

Re: Extra Compressor Oil

yup, too thin for bar oil. if it is mostly kerosene, wouldn't that be ok to use in a car in small amounts?

Re: Extra Compressor Oil

I would not use it in an engine. It may contain small amounts of paraffin dissolved in it. This may lead to nasty deposits on valves and fuel injectors, and possibly fouling plugs, O2 sensors, and catalytic converters.

Re: Extra Compressor Oil

Ever since the 70's, in the old thunker 100 gal 2 piston compressor, to the modern 10 gal portable shop compressor, I have always used non detergent 30 wt oil. Never had a problem, just change it when it looks funky.

I dont know about using it in a car. I still use 90% multigrade synthetic, with 10% 30 wt oil to protect the bearings during start up.
