Re: Here's Your Future Tire

Oh, another airless tire.

I saw a telehandler with airless tires just the other day. They had round holes bored through them, which was how I realized they are airless. That's a civilian application that severely needs it...they get used for roofing and always end up with flats, plus the big jobs where you use them are often in terrible neighborhoods where the machine gets vandalized and tires are the most expensive thing on the machine to get vandalized (until they hotwire it and take it for a destruction joyride).

Re: Here's Your Future Tire

I've seen those and regular fork trucks run with a special dry foam in the tires rather than air, then they can pick up as many nails as you like without a problem.

I like the honeycomb more than the tweel, I'm sure they've tested it but I have images in my head of it wrapping up like a spiral under high load.

Re: Here's Your Future Tire

yea the forktrucks at my work have solid rubber tires, everythign else (cushmans, JLG's, bicycles etc) have that super stiff foam in the standard rubber tires. otherwise everyone would get a flat everyday due to all the chips on the ground

they do get flat spots tho haha
