Couldn't agree more. I'm sure a lot ofpeople would think that my tattoos are lame, but they are a piece of me that I can put on the outside. I actually feel closure with the Philippines after getting the tattoo.

I've always viewed tattoos as telling a story. They are NOT a fashion statement. They are pieces of individual art that tells about a place I've been, an emotion i've had, or a lesson learned.

you'd be surprised what a good artist can cover up. I love my tattoo artist. Not only is he a great guy, but it's one hell of an artist. I have no doubt that HE could make it into anything. I'm certain you have your artist there too that can do the same.

I'm so hairy, that if I had to shave part of myself in order to get a tattoo, I would look very lopsided. Doesn't matter too much though because I don't really have any interest in tattoos. If they reinstate the draft though, I'll get Sinn Fein or Tiocfaidh ar La tattooed on a very visible part of my arm. I know someone who was kicked out of the army for having a Sinn Fein tattoo.

If that doesn't work, a nice large circle A should do the trick.

Strange, I too would only get a tattoo if I went into the military....I like most military tattoos. I guess our reasons are different though....

Here are a few of mine. All were done by my son.
The Uffington Horse is from a hill in England.
The Dragon Head is from an old Viking Longhip.
The Shaman is from Les Trois Freres in France.

wow Sigifrith... those are really amazing... thanks for posting those.

I personally really like the dragon the most. I've never been into dragons too much, but I realy like that one.

Where in Illinois are you? And how long has your son been a tattoo artist?

I live out in the sticks, but work in Alton.
St. Louis is just across the river.

Eric has been doing tattoo's since 93 or there abouts. You can see more of his work at

I spent some time outside of Moline working on a film. That area of the country is absolutely beautiful, but boring as hell. It is good though because it's one of the few places left in this country where you can smoke in a bar, and where they generally don't ID.

What is the point of tattoos? I get the Navy symbol or a lost relatives name or something but mostly? Would you wear the same shirt with a picture of a (fill in something here) on the sleeve every day for the rest of your life? Would you wear the same colorful holiday socks every single day of your life and for women that means even when wearing a nice dress to go to dinner or whatever?

I am always suspicious of first posts, to long-dead threads, by people who don't have a car in their garage.
