But safety is something you can know ahead of time from the ratings. Too terrible and I just won't buy it. Reliability is less obvious. Keep in mind a lot of the people in India who will buy these things are using scooters right now. Fatalities might well drop.

Law firms will love this car when it crushes like a soda can on impact.

If it can't meet minimum standards, the US won't allow it to be sold here. That doesn't mean it'll be great in a crash, granted.

The trunk is "hard to access" because it has no rear door. You flip the seats to access the trunk. There's a small trunk in the front as well, but it pretty much just houses the spare. It's top speed of 105 kph is apparently the result of a governor for safety. Read one driving review and he didn't like the drum brakes. Tended to be all or nothing.

If you said it was cute or you said it was ugly, I'd see where you were coming from. I'm not having much luck finding more detailed info on the engine. That's the part that interests me most.

Given the inspirational story: an Indian family riding a scooter (with alarming picture), I suspect four people was part of the design spec. A three wheeler with a single powered wheel in back saves a wheel and a differential. Must've had a good reason to reject it. Is there a handy name for that configuration?

That's all I can find too. I should've thought to post it. If anyone sees something with more info (or pictures!), please let me know. This is supposed to be the first two cylinder engine with a single balance shaft.

A lot of the technology in the nano could be improved with time (steel skin, welded steel frame), so it should be exciting to see its successors.

I'm not surprised by that balance shaft. A two cylinder is plagued with the same vibrations that a 4 cylinder is.

It isn't a rev machine but it does have a wide powerband, whatever power it has.
