Good idea - could just hack a transaxle for a compact diff?
or take one from any small rwd/awd vehicle with workable output flanges, they're pretty compact already and setup to go in in a 'T' configuration. I would think that would take up the least amount of precious passenger compartment.
Considering that others are suggesting making a custom-built oil bath for the chain drive, I'd think the diff starts looking better.

thats a pretty cool hybrid..im wondering how difficult it would be to replace that ford aspire parts front shafts and left and right ti rods.. any tips on how to do it? thanks..
Just within this last week, I had a simlar idea pop into my head for my 98 Civic Cx. I'm glad to see that someone else was way ahead of me with proof of concept because until now, I just thought that this was an idea that had only existed in my mind.
This is link is now closed; but I would love to know exactly how this guy hybridized his Ford Aspire . Would you by chance have saved the posting? If not, I think that we should all revisit this topic so as to make another prototype a version reality. I'm game to be the guinea pig, so let see if we can all put our heads together on this.
