Hypermile a water cooled VW?

Just wanted to say Hello
I recently sold my 97 Mercury Mountianeer, basically a V8 all wheel drive Ford Explorer.
I Never broke 15 mpg on my 35 mile one way commute.
I replaced it with a cranky old 84 Ford F250 with the diesel, and a 87 VW Golf 8 Valve 4 door.
I am able to average 35 mpg with the VW. I hope to be able to break 40 with driving habits, a block heater, and repairing a small fuel leak that the car currently has.
I look forward to sharing any info I can as well as learning as I read more and more from these boards.
Thanks for the great site
Charlie

Fuel leak location?

Where is the fuel leak? That's got to be one of the quickest fixes. J-B Weld (or your favorite epoxy) can usually take care of that on the tank, if it's lines it's worth replacing them.

Fuel leak location

Thanks for the reply
The fuel leak is in the fuel pump housing. A small plastic tank next to the fuel tank that holds the high pressure fuel pump. It is fed by a lower pressure pump from the fuel tank. It is also not uncommon to leak on these cars.
I ordered a new one even though I have heard of mixed success with epoxy.
Good luck with the hunt for a CRX sounds interesting.
