Hi,

I am mainstreet98, new member. I just bought a '91 CRX HF from my brother in law and I am looking forward to working on it to maximize mileage.

I joined GasSavers primarily because it features a number of discussions that are very informative and I expect to ask a number of questions.

I will start by asking how I can verify that the engine that is in my CRX HF is really an HF engine. My brother-in-law said he bought the car from his neighbor who had replaced the engine when the car had about 100k miles. The replacement engine had about 60k miles. I would like to verify that the current engine is a real HF.

By the way, what could I expect as far as mpg if I replaced this engine with a vx engine?

Thanks in advance for any responses or help.

Welcome!

Any guesses why the engine was replaced so prematurely?

I didn't ask my brother-in-law, but I will. The "new" engine now has about 100 K miles on it. I think the engine was replaced several years ago.

there is a guy here putting a vx engine in a crx and his goal is 100 mpg. realize though it is a joint effort of many things and not just dropping in the motor for him. his user name is 101mpg (he is an administrator here).

there are many honda guys here that sould chime in on this one. hopefully, they can lead you in the right direction.

welcome to the site.
