New-Old Guy

Just wanted to say hello. I've been a Hot Rodder for over 35yrs. I have learned that performance and mpg coexsist. I would like to put my abilities into improving the mpg on my 04 Accord 2.4 I-VECT
I have a great new job except the downside is 3 days a week I drive 170 miles round trip. With my current (not so good) driving habits I am avg 30mpg

My goal is to see how much i can increase this. Looking forward to learning a lot!

Re: New-Old Guy

I already run the synthetic oil. It has 124K so I am going to replace the plugs & wires. Yeah, sorry about the Honda thing (lol), it's the first new car I bought in 30yrs and I just did not like the way others car felt as far as quality. I am a fan of your scion and i also like the cube!! My wife & kids think I crazy... you would think after all these year that they would KNOW i am LOL

Welcome. AT or MT? How fast do you drive it, and what's your commute like?

Darrell,

It's a A/T. My commute is 95% Hwy and I am running way too fast 10 over the limit which is 65 -75mph. I know I have to reduce that. I'm a big fan of cruise control and I need not to get too aggressive (old NY ways come back to quickly)lol

Bill

Re: New-Old Guy

For 95% highway commuting, I'd have the front end all taped/sealed up. Tape or seal the seams around the headlights, hood, fender/hood joint. I might put an extended cowling to cover the wipers, remove antenna and listen to cd's instead, think about a grille block, increase tires psi, and yes slow down! Do 55mph instead.
