Yes- the trans needs 10W40. I bet that was your problem. All the Honda manual trannys use motor oil (at least all the ones that I know about).

Oxygen sensor, buy a repair manual, no engine light.

MPG went from 32 to 42 after I put the correct oil in the transmission. I still haven't dealt with the oxygen sensor, that will be next. I did check my tires pressure, they were off some. I probably won't get a lot better than 42, I drive too fast most of the time.

I don't know about mileage. But I can tell you that using standard, high viscosity gear oil (ie GL-5) in a Honda transmission is probaby the number one way that these transmissions are fried.

I could've sworn Honda transmissions in particular were extremely picky as far as transmission oil goes. They have special additives in their transmission oil that you won't get in universal tranny oil... The last time I changed my transmission oil, I had to use the special tranny oil from the dealership which was about $8 per quart.

I use 10w-40 motor oil because that's what the Mitchell, Chilton and Haynes repair manuals say to use. I've had no issues with hard shifting or input bearing problems (my engine has no pilot bearing for the trans input shaft).

But- I do have a spare transmission just in case I am wrong
