Avg MPG on Fuelly

Hi I'm new to Fuelly, but love the site so far!

Just wondering how the avg MPG is calculated.
I'm looking at my stats and there is no way I'm getting that on my Taurus. The best MPG looks about right since I do mostly highway miles currently. Can anyone fill me in on how avg MPG is so high?

Fuelly calculates Avg MPG by taking the total miles tracked divided by total gallons tracked. That's all there is to it.

Looks like your case has a wrench or two in it because you have some missed fuel-ups. So Fuelly might not be able to get a completely accurate totals miles tracked, and that could be throwing things off a little. I'm guessing once you have three or four more fuel-ups in a row that aren't missed you'll get a more accurate average MPG.

Thanks! I just put in another fuel up. Will see how it averages out. I'm getting better mileage than I thought. Probably because I mostly drive in the optimal MPG range and it's been mostly highway miles.

The iMotorManager Automotive platform www.imotormanager.com calculates MPG the same way by taking the total miles tracked divided by total gallons tracked.
