Car smog history report, VIN or Plate Number search.

Sorrry if it is a repost, this is a good tool to use from the EPA, you can track your cars smog history and the cities it grew up in, lol:

Good to show that link, however it only says if the car passed or fail emissions in california. What would be much more useful is if you had the actual emissions report instead. To do that, you've got to do a public records request:http://www.bar.ca.gov/70_SiteWideInf...equestFAQ.html

I've done three full reports so far. I first checked the smog history via that website you mentioned, then I told them the year range I wanted and that I wanted detailed smog reports for a given year range like 1997-2011, etc. Guy seemed ok with me doing it, though I don't know if it's up to his discretion and that he could deny you if he doesn't like you. I told him I wanted the smog history so I can see how clean the vehicle was when it was much younger so that I'd have an emissions goal to work towards. Also helps to know when the vehicle suddenly came into disrepair.

not likely to show it... I know because I've had carfax.. What you COULD do is contact your manufacturer's dealership and see if they have records on the car. Otherwise, it may or may not have been changed by some other shop.

Well for my Lexus LS400, we've had service done at the dealership yet it didn't show on the carfax at all. So I had one of the guys at the dealership print me up an entire vehicle history report on the car, all the service done on the car at the dealership. Very lengthy report but it was nice to see what had and hadn't been done.
