Did it again this evening after work, trip MPG was 18.5 by the time I got to my driveway. As close to the same methods in driving except I didn't pass anything. Just kept cruising at 65. My guess is that I was inadvertently P&Ging when I did this the first time which could give reason to the difference of 1.4 MPG for the trip

My F150 is an 05 Automatic with the 5.4L. I was a bit surprised that it's more efficient to mash into it a little bit. I think there is also the factor of converter loss being minimized. In other words, I hold it at about 2000 rpm either way, but perhaps the lower throttle input is just meeting the converter losses, whereas the extra throttle is transmitted directly (more or less).

20.2 MPG this time P&Ging on purpose. IAT read slightly higher than usual 93F instead of 85F. Sitting at idle it spikes to around 112F.

In city, "sling shotting" seems to be a good method with a general increase of 3-4 MPG for a trip. Once gunned in 2nd it will coast in proportion with acceleration. High acceleration seems to generate the longest glides, was able to coast for 2 miles on level ground without touching the gas

This reminds me when I had my Chrysler Cordoba for the 1st time. I was driving it around town like a crazy 16-year old and got 16.5 mpg for the 1st fill , not bad for a carburated Chrysler 318 (I remember it being $5 for 50km at the time. Gas was cheap!). Once winter rolled around, the car got 18-19 mpg when driving 55mph and 7 mpg in city traffic in the winter .

Ooh, I just found out i CAN EOC pretty well. I was thinking aobut the times my car randomly dies, and remembered out on the highway the transmission/motor kept turning. Which got me thiking.

So I took the beast out to the country (getting < 1 MPG ) Then i turned around sped up to 90 mph, and reset the tripminder. I then flicked the key to the off setting haha to my surprised not much happened, the car started to slow, but not too quickly at all. The transmission and engine were locked up and staying that way (thank god for non-electronic automatics). I did this the rest of the way to my house at speeds from 50-70 and ended up with a tank average of 21.7 mpg :P I can't wait to see what it will do when it's running a little better.

Nah its 6 mighty gerbils. I just have the same displacement of a V8; 4L

The Rav4 is going to be tough to beat.....
