i have those crappy Daytime running lights to deal with too! I normally can hold a battery voltage of 12.4 when coasting with the engine off, that number dropps to 11.8 when I have full headlights on and interior gauges too (toned all the way down .

Hey I have a black car so on hot days, you have to give me credit dont' forget the dark interior!

True.

However, there are a number of things you can do to greatly lower the electrical load of the various lights. Check out the various threads about LEDs, for example.
