GM Sales of Hybrids Miserable

"GM has been making an awful lot of noise about their two-mode hybrid system with lots of announcements about all the vehicles the system will be installed in. What they aren't bragging much about is sales. That's because there isn't much to brag about." Astonishingly, "the sum total of hybrid sales for all models offered by GM in the first three months of 2008 was 843. That is not a typo, it's 843."

Lets see, build a gas hog then make it 10 k more expensive, but slightly less of a gas hog, and expect people to swallow the farce hook line and sinker.
If they had some brains they would buy the engine tranny combo from a Dodge Sprinter.

regards
Gary

Although I own a Jeep Liberty CRD Diesel and it weights ~4300#, I agree the car makers (US) are just not getting it. Small Diesel Trucks and Small Hybrids are what is needed to claim a bigger portion of the market. Who cares if a Tahoe can get ~21mpg City if it can't get but 1 mpg better highway at 22mpg.

Of course the EPA rating for my Jeep is 19/21/23. The Highway is off based on many Jeep CRD owners on L.O.S.T. KJs...we routinely get 27-30mpg highway at 65mph.

In the mid to late 80s they were advertising the Suburban diesel as 25 city 30 highway... some progress huh.

Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

the low sales numbers may be related to the fact that the dealership i work at hasnt received one yet. possibly the case for many dealers.

I posted about this a long time ago when the Tahoe Hybrid price was announced. Why on earth would I pay $50K for a 20 mpg SUV????

They could have used the low tech 4.3 V6 or even the high tech 2.9 liter four, and gotten 25 mpg city, and profitably sold the Tahoe for $40K. But instead, they put in a monster 6.0 liter at a ridiculous price.

I used to love GM, but it's hard to love someone who's insane.

I think one of the articles says the hybrids are just appearing on the lots. Maybe part of the balme is on the dealers. I visited a Chevy dealer to look at the Malibu and this big dealer didn't even stock an Aveo - so how is GM gonna sell fuel efficient cars when the dealer doesn't stock them? But GM car hybrids suck. And the Tahoe gas is $38,000 vs $52,000 for hybrid - too much markup for a measely hybrid.

One of my problems with GM (other than Chinese engines in Equinox) is that they were developing some amazing technology such as the north-star. A very nice 4-valve pent roof design with power and great fuel economy all things considered. They fail me and the rest of the consumers when they fail to apply this knowledge to smaller cars such as the cavy. While the Japanese were pumping out OHC engines the big three had there thumb in there *** pushing out dated push rod engines upon the general public.

I wish I could go buy a chrysler or what ever and say it was the best made car but, I feel that day is not here yet or, it has already passed
