Is it JUST me or you, too?

So you start out on a long distance trip with 4+ hours of driving ahead of you.

You're turtling along, minding your own business, and you notice the same yahoo racing past you two or three times during the trip.

I can't imagine he's driving SO fast that he's lapping me.

Has this happened to you?

Based on your other post... he's most definitely lapping you.

He's stopping more often for fuel, and you pass him during his pit stops.

I've seen this happen time and again through the years on various long trips. I believe lots of folks speed to the next rest stop, and obviously they're stopping much more than me. They're burning more fuel than if they drove more moderately, but their schedules and bladders and appetites and fuel consumption may require it, and perhaps their nerves too.

Having driven a million miles or so as a fleet owner and driver of one, yes, I've seen it often. They drive very fast and stop often. They are the hare. My hero was always the tortoise so whenever I saw them I knew I'd won.

"Slow and steady wins the race" if you drive fast more often, you will also be braking more often, so you will be going slow more often as a result. Keeping a consistent speed will get you where you're going no later and save fuel too.

I was picked for a level 1 inspection once. I had something over 230k miles on my truck. The inspector said something about getting new brakes so soon. I said no, they came on the truck and I just followed about 10-12 seconds back so I didn't use them really. I turned the truck over to one of my teams with 500k and original brakes.
