MPG and car ads

OK.. I gotta say I got a beef here. A big one.

ALL..ok maybe 90% of the car ads in Canada advertise their fuel efficiency in their ads ( I wonder why? lol...).

Anyway, they advertise it in MILE PER GALLON... WTF??

We don't even uses miles, and certainly not gallons. Our cars has both KMH/MPH gauges but all the fuel pumps are pumping in liters and prices advertised in $/liter.

Oh..let's throw in another element of confusion, they are using IMPERIAL gallons, not US gallons.

The result?

A nice Ford Flex ads displays a 34 MPG highway mileage. (28 US mpg)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffkR1WW4jtk

And a New Fit ad displays a 33 MPG highway mileage. (33 US mpg)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aozcFkomqHQ

So Honda uses the normal MPG while Ford uses the imperial measure (I guess they will use whatever they can with their financial situation).

And what does a alert customer sees when he goes on the manufacturer's Canadian website? L/100 Km...Are they trying to screw with people's intelligence and money???? Not only they don't use L/100 KM but they switch to imperial gallons to make it looks better.

I was watching TV and though theres NO WAY that Flex gets 34 MPG...so it sparked my anger

it can get to 34 mpg.. driving downhill at 55 mph, with eoc

yea i get what you mean on these car ads. in America they only advertise the highway mpg instead of the city or combined mpg.

Bigger numbers sell. Horsepower, headroom, trunk volume...
If they thought they could get away with it I'm sure they'd use milliliters per light year.
The ads aren't deceitful provided the units are listed. And which miles are being used? Statute, nautical, "country"...

as a fellow canadian i understand....we're so stuck between measurement systems in this country its a joke. everything is metric until you get into any industry - just about every factory uses imperial! makes it fun at work...have to be able to use both well.

i often use online conversion tools to figure out the relative mpg. too lazy to do the math.

Well, I guess if we can "Blame Canada!", you can blame us too.
