55 mph = 42.0 mpg
50 mph = 42.9 mpg
45 mph = 49.3 mpg
40 mph = 53.7 mpg
35 mph = 57.6 mpg
30 mph = 61.4 mpg

Kind of bizarre if you ask me. The Geo is going into the shop for the 1st time on Thursday for an oil leak repair. I'll get the mechanic to go through it and see if it needs anything else.

I just got a really cool surprise. I was near my normal gas station and saw I was going to have just over 500 miles on the tank by the time I got there so I decided to stop and fill up. I had 500.5 miles and the SG2 was reporting 50.8 MPG . I thought, "That's pretty respectible for this time of year." I started pumping and when I was finished, I put in 9.548 gallons and my MPG figured at 52.419 mpg. This is in temps that have not been above freezing for over a week. I did one significant thing different this tank: When I accelerated/pulsed, I made sure that the TPS(throttle position sensor) on the Scanguage was reading as close to 15 as possible and, as usuall, I shifted at 1500 rpm or below.

That's an interesting technique. I shall try that sometime. What's so special about the TPS being around 15? Mine can only go as high as 52 when the gas is floored.

Hmm, that's interesting that yours only reads to 52. Mine reads from 0 to as high as 99 so I can assume that I'm accelerating at about a 15% throttle opening.

Thanks. The weather around here isn't as bad as the rest of the country. Temps are usually around 35 to 40 *F in the morning, 55 to 60 at midday.
I'm trying hard to drive consistantly. I do the same commute all week and try not to drive it on the weekends. I plan to take the car to the 1/4 mile drags when the track opens again to see if it's any faster with the aero mods I've done lately. I added a few underbody panels in the dirtier areas, so my trap speed should go up. Consequently, my tank to tank consistency will drop off that week. It's all part of the fun!

was just asking why your on a fuel mileage website if you don't make any efforts to drive economicly and don't care to. i'm sure with the right driver and techniques your car could do better.

Hehe, my reply was in the same vein.

I could possibly get 10 MPG worse economy if I thrashed it all the time....... but the point is, my car is a convertible, so I WILL drive it with the top down, it has A/C and heated seats, I will use those too, it has wider tires for better roadholding and stability (and looks), and even though all these items do detract from potential fuel economy, I won't change the way I use them.

But, I am starting to try and optimise FE now that I have a ScanGauge, but I draw the line at not using my car's convenience and comfort features.

The TPS must work a bit different on different brands of cars, mine is at 17 at idle with no throttle, then it just go's up from there. I never checked to see how high it went though.
