Renewing the quest

I've been away from hypermiling for a bit due to building my race car. I have decided to start hypermiling again and I'm hoping to see a 40 mpg tank out of LV. My approach will be a bit different from before I will not have a tray or any under car mods. I will however completely enclose the front. Tuft testing has shown the rad will get plenty of air from under the nose ala BEEFs cavalier. So a smooth face coming soon. I may also try to put on another MPG rally this summer.

good luck to you.

you may want to take a little milder approach than I did. I did it for the looks. the plexiglass that I had on it forever did just as good a job and didn't really look that bad.

use the power of the dark side.. warm air intake, your car will run warmer than other cars because it has a black hood lord vader lol by this I mean sever warmth increase methods, make your own radiator fan switch, and use it less, same with daytime runners at 60 mph you can do 40mpg for sure

I used (wax paper)to stuff holes in the headlights, gorilla duct tape to seal off my radiator.. 40 mpg all day long

if you do want to dress it up a little, the new krylon fusion tends to stay on it pretty well and it's cheap.

yesterday I taped up the grille 90% and did the same on Casper today I'm driving casper to see if it was a mistake (early subarus have marginal cooling systems).

the sealed upper grille has made NO difference on coolant temps YAY!! It has however changed the drag enough to show up on the vac/boost gauge. driving @65 on the freeway open grille would run 16" vac now its 18-20" on level ground at 65mph this is a good sign.
