scangauge is only 1996 and up with OBDII. I think select 1995 cars had it.

I have heard of people using a vacuum gauge just to give them an idea of mileage and fuel consumption. I don't have an older vehicle so I am just passing on what I have heard.

I use a vacuum gauge in my '88 Escort. It's nothing like the scan gauge I use in the other cars, but it does help you stay lighter on the gas pedal.

GM used to actually have an optional "economy meter" on the dashboard on some of their cars in the early 80's. It was nothing more than a vacuum gauge.

I remember reading about it in the owners manual of my old 1980 Bonneville.
