Twinned Vehicles

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but I was wondering if anyone knew where a list of twinned vehicles can be found? The only thing I found was edmunds.com list. But I was looking for a list that covered all years.

Twinned vehicles are basically the same car but sold under different badges and names. Like a Chevy Blazer and a GMC Jimmy. Or a Pontiac Vibe and a Toyota Matrix. Geo/Suzuki Metro

It seems twinned vehicles are where they are the same chassis / car, but are sold under different badges.

Kind of like the Skoda Octavia / VW Passat in Europe - or the Suzuki Swift / Geo Metro / Pontiac Firefly / other versions of that car.

I notice Suzuki Swifts quite often because I see them so much on here - I also feel sorry for you in the US, because, when I went driving there, I hired a 'Saturn Ion', and it was me and someone else. As far as I was concerned, that was quite a big car, and they said 'are you sure that is enough for the both of you'? (!). In the UK, that would be a family size car, and would be fine for 4 people, comfortable for 3, and very comfortable for 2!. In the UK (and Europe), there are loads of small cars, such as the Nissan Micra, Peugeot 106, Renault Clio (=Nissan Micra so a 'twinned vehicle'), Ford Fiesta (although this has been getting bigger with every revision), and so on, whereas in the US (Georgia), the smallest car I saw was a new VW beetle (which is fairly large in my books).

If you really start researching, you can find what vehicle lines share components as well. For instance, VW is a platform *****, so much so that just about any four cylinder built over a three decade time span will bolt up to any of their watercooled vehicles built during the same time span. Transmissions end up being very interchangeable, as do engines with the right mounts. Generally, Wikipedia is a good source for checking which vehicles have twins.

GM did it the most, but Ford/Mercury

GM did the most twin stuff, if I can remember, as did Ford with the following popular models (some not listed in the article -- and chassis sharing without a common look was exlcuding in this list, like the Mazda 6 is the basis for the Miilan, Fusion, etc.)

Mercury:Ford

Topaz:Tempo
Grand Marquis:Crown Victoria
Zephyr:Fairmont
Lynx:Escort
Sable:Taurus
Milan:Fusion
Mariner:Escape
Montego:500

Then with you have the Trifecta with the-
Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser
(quite a bit with Dodge and Eagle, like the Monaco/Premier, and Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge with the K-cars on up to the "Cloud Cars": Plymouth Breeze, Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Cirrus -- lots of Dodge/Plymouth overlap and later with Mitsu.)

This essentially did-in Oldsmobile: too much redundancy -- but now Saturn is slowly back-filling into its slot.
