Sounds like you have some money to burn ... how about a 2007 Mercedes-Benz
R320 CDI 4dr Wagon AWD - starts around $37k and you get 21 mpg / 28 mpg on a diesel. ;-)
Or a bit cheaper...2005 VW Passat Diesel Wagon...more room than the Focus and pretty good FE...27 mpg / 38 mpg

All good sugestions... keep them comming. I don't have money to burn, but I like to make VERY educated decisions when I do make them. I have always liked the subaru's but they are quite proud of their car$. Thanks everyone.
lancek, on the Santa Fe, the only negative was less than ideal fuel economy, but with the stuff I learn here and watching my ScanGauge like a hawk, I'm only about 1½ MPG off my wife's Accord mileage with it's 4cyl / stick - most urban/suburban and only measured last tank.
My ideal would have been less than 10l/100km which is 23.5 MPG or better in the U.S. and 28.2 MPG in Canada which sounds better but is due to using Imperial gallons when we step away from metric. Imperial gallons are 20% bigger.
