which transmission is best for 55mph?

i have the 5sp ex transmission (short gears) and at 55 mph i'm at 2100 rpm, i feel like in my car, anything under 2000 rpm is really weak to the point that it bogs.

so would a longer transmission such as a lx or vx tranny bog at 55 mph? im doing close to 100% city driving, and i love the ex tranny for now, but im just wondering

99.99999% of people here will probably tell you to ditch your EX transmission and get a CX/VX transmission. But honestly, I don't think you will see much of a difference. After all, your D16Z6 is not designed for low RPM cruising. So going with something taller will likely cause your car to feel weak, while giving you little to nothing in the way of FE benefit. This is ESPECIALLY the case with city driving, where a CX/VX transmission would effectively take away 1-2 usable gears around town. Of course, if you can get a transmission cheap AND replace it yourself, you could always experiment. But I honestly don't feel that a VX/CX transmission would help you without a D15Z1 swap to go along with it - ESPECIALLY for city driving.

I did an HF trans swap on my 87 Civic carbed 1.5 and here is my result- it helps on the interstate, but it hurts my city mpg. My engine has pretty good torque down to 1500 rpms- but different engines have different torque curves and yours sounds like it needs a low geared tranny because it needs to rev.

If you are doing 99% city driving (less than 45 mph), in my opinion, you should just stay with the low geared tranny.

As long as it is fairly level highway then yes I believe it would. For better information check out an online trans calculator and that will tell you exactly what you got.
