I had a shaker light that had a lithium cell and a shaker mode. The shaker mode sucked, it would be bright for a couple of minutes and then you had to shake it again for a minute to get usable light out of it. The lithium cell died because the button got hit in the took box and killed it...

I should probably get a set of jumper cables.

I have some dollar store shake lights. They come with two CR2032 lithium batteries in them, but the shake stuff is fully functional too. I took the batteries out of one and it works fine as long as you don't mind shaking often.

I keep a solar charged LED flashlight on my dash, came in handy more than a few times. I always keep jumper cables, and usually have tools with me for my job. On long trips i make sure to bring a box full of sockets and wrenches.
I also keep my old serpentine belt under the hood just in case, plus extra oil, coolant...

Mine's transparent so you can see all of the wiring and circuitry. There's no battery anywhere. You've gotta shake it for a minute or two to get anything and randomly shake it to keep it going.

Totally shake only

I found some tools in my car, that the previous owner put there, after driving it for 10k miles.

I carried a hammer and a 12, 14, and 11/16th wrenches to a friends shop today to do a front brake job.

I used to own a shop full of tools, never really wanted to carry them around with me, unless I had some crazy problem like the car dying on the side of the road. Then it was always the wrong tool.

regards
gary

The one I was talking about was transparent as well... but if it stops, and shaking it makes it work again then you got a real one... We took one apart when it stopped working, and we found a lithium button cell hidden inside, and the copper wire from the shake mechanisim didn't connect to anything.

The car is pretty much totally cleaned out. There are no tools in it. There is a compressor/jump starter in it and a flashlight though. I only used the jump starter once on someone elce's car that I stopped to help at the side of the road..

The Jeep.....well there's just too much to list.

I don't keep anything in my car. The only tool in my car is a monkey wrench.

I keep up on the maintenance, tire condition, etc. etc. so I know what condition pretty much everything is in. having a bunch of tools won't fix a bad alternator or distributor. its better to have something, but think about it. what could possibly happen? you start overheating, timing belt breaks, lose spark, fuel pump goes out. you need parts, having a bunch of random tools doesn't mean anything. your going to have to tow.

I can see jumper cables
extra fluid
spare, with stock jack and tools
fuses, you could use fuses from other devices that you don't need to get home.
a basic socket set, and screwdrivers.
and a flash light.

from my experience. people that have these freak occurances where random things fail, don't know the car and haven't keep up with the maintenance.
