Nice article. I personally know of 3 people that are trading in their trucks/SUVs for more FE vehicles. From what I'm told, they're taking a hit on trade-in value.

One of my co-worker's traded-in his relatively new Chevy Tahoe for an older Audi A4 1.8t w/ a manual trans. He took a beating on that deal.

It says after paying $75 to fill up??? My friends pickup truck is closer to $100 at current prices. he doesn't drive it anymore. I see many SUV's and trucks, for sale every time the gas prices spike. DUH...Iv been driving small cars since the 80s gas crunch...

Heh, I'm almost up to 18mpg in my full size v8 pickup. The updated version of my truck has displacement on demand, I could easily beat 20, probably 22 with it...

99.9864% of pick up owners around here have beds that never have been used ever.

I'm hovering right around 17-18 MPG combined with my Yukon Denali. I'm not a hypermiller by any means I just keep it under 65 on the highway and don't accelerate too fast. I'm actually looking to get a bigger guzzler now and these lower prices mean I will get a better deal (though that will be partially leveled out by the hit I will take on the Yukon). I need a larger car with higher towing capacity so I am looking at the Excursion Diesel.

My solution to high gas prices has been buying a CRX HF and keeping an SUV for when I need it.

I was up the local Sam's Club today and out front one of the Dodge Dealers had a Ram pick up parked. Save up to $13,000 was on the front windshield.
I think that tells you how bad truck sales are.

Funny thing about raw capitalism.
It bites you hard in the backside if you make bad decisions.

Lots of dealers and maybe some US automakers could go under due to thinking they could survive by selling gas hogs to the marketplace.

Instead, they should have been real leaders and told people they should buy true gas sippers. Should have built them too. Silly Detroit boys.

But their profit margins are scant on compact cars vs. several thousand on full size trucks and SUVs. And if you can only sell one car to one person, which one would you push as the business owner?

Expect to see some serious price cuts in the new market very soon!
