I did miss this earlier. there is a user (hateful I think) his car looks like piniccio. it is funny looking.
I don't have too many plans right now. I have an experiment a brewing and if I undergo that, there will be no changes for a while as it will skew the results. |
It's cool. I think my brainstorming on this has run its course anyway. Almost everything I talk about here I have no plans of implementing. Still fun.

Came up with another adjustable grille method. It use PVC, but to conform to a curved front it uses several smaller ones. They'd be orientated vertically and while the inlet hole would be in the side, the outlet could vary depending on on where it was mounted with respect to the radiator. If beneath, the top of the pipes would just have no cap. If in line, there'd be another hole in the back of the pipe. By staggering the layout of the PVC pipes it can follow the car's shape. You'd have to link them to allow them to be driven by one device, but a pair of wires to each should suffice, although a linkage could be used (can push and pull). Obviously there'd have to be a cover to fill in the spaces between the PVC cylinders and to hide to ugly.
Might make some pictures later of this. My paint program of choice for this sort of work is Aura, so I have to reboot into Windows to use it. Need to get a virtualization program I guess (or suck it up and learn a new paint program). |

I talked to my uncle who worked at Pratt & Whittney (so he's been involved with a lot of wind tunnel testing) and he thinks I don't need to bother worrying about the fairly deep recesses in my grille. So just blocking the back is fine. Much, much easier. I figure a piece of plastic attached to some rubber plugs that are sized to be snug in the hex grille would hold it in but still allow it to be removed quickly (since the rear of the grille isn't accessible).
The temp light didn't come on during my trip to CT this weekend. Be interesting to see what my car computer says the coolant temps are. What's an acceptable maximum anyway? |
I would say that you wouldn't want to run much higher than the T-stat setting. mine is 195. others may tell you different and even I will say that this is my opinion. you could also see at what temp your fan kicks in. that will give you a pretty good idea of the temps that the manufacturer is worried about.

That's logical. I also know what range the light is set to go off at, although too much fan operation is definitely undesirable. I'd just take my grille block off if using my trailer. My car has a lot more of its area in the upper grille than your car, so a greater proportion is now covered.
