On my car I pulled the DRL relay and bent the tab that feeds the lamp circuit over to the side and plugged it back in. I get a brief blinking warning light when I first start the car. |
https://www.lightsout.org/disable.html has some general information on disabling DRL.
I tried disabling the DRL on my Civic by pulling the fuse with no luck. DRL is not an option on my 95 Civic. It is on Canadian models. |
yea usualyl theres a diode, a fuse, or bend the pin to the drl relay. my truck had a fuse so i just pulled that :P

BUMP!
wanted to revisit this subject a bit. my urgency for disabling the DRL has now increased as EOC seems to be weakening the battery. certainly we have added a lot of new members since this thread was started. anyone know how to execute this for this vehicle? my search has been futile! |

Are the lights/bulbs dedicated as DRL only? Or do they also function as the low beams?
If they are dedicated as DRL's only, you could remove the bulbs or unsnap the electrical connector. |
These are high beam filaments operated at a reduced voltage. There is some added resistor in a circuit parallel to the full intensity high beam circuit. VW used low beam filaments instead, and installed a "series resistance wire", a smaller gauge wire that added resistance (and consumes power by producing heat) to drop the volatage to the filaments in a second, parallel path. I suspect the NUMMI plant did something similar.
You'll need to locate a wiring diagram or schematic to determine where this resistor or resistance wire is inserted on your Geo-ta. Once identified and located, simply opening the circuit will accomplish the desired goal. Note that the hand brake switch disable was not across all makers or model years. VW DRL for the 96-97 Passat did not, but the 96-98 Jetta did. |
