1980 Pontiac Bonneville Safari Wagon (Learned to drive on this car)
1981 AMC Spirit (Grandma's old car given to my sister & I) 1984 Buick Skyhawk (Inherited from my grandmother, and immediately traded to my sister for her 81 Regal) 1981 Buick Regal (My first car I actually registered in my name. I still own & drive the car on occasion) 1974 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Deluxe pickup (I wish I still had this one) 1986 Chevrolet C-10 Silverado pickup (Still owned - on loan to my father right now) 1998 GMC Sierra K1500 extended cab 4x4 pickup (current daily driver) |
Past personal cars:
1987 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, HT4100 aluminum head engine. Very comfortable, reasonably fast despite low horsepower when it ran well, best built-in diagnostic system ever made. Suffered from aging, neglect, unreliable engine, and dumb kid owner. 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6 3.1. Did not fit me, my knees and elbows always hurt after driving it. Suffered from I hated it due to fit and lameness, and from dumb kid driveritis -- if one pedal wasn't on the floor, both were. Blew the engine at ~130k, replaced it, was angry for a long time. Car redeemed itself when I no longer drove it and let my aunt drive it, and eventually sold it to her. 2002 GMC Sierra 4x4 extended cab regular bed 5.3l: Suffers from occasional minor gremlins. Can do ANYTHING. Never lets me down. Gets me there fast, gets heavy loads anywhere, drags the camper up any mountain. Very comfortable. 1980 Buick Lesabre 4.1 V6: Suffers from age, neglect, and low budget. Very comfortable, not very fast. Very light for its size -- a mere 3500 pounds for a yacht. Inherited from Grandpa who bought it new. I will eventually put the money and effort into this car that it deserves. 2008 VW Rabbit 2.5 I5, 5 speed manual: Finally I have a manual transmission. My FE car. Surprisingly comfortable. Suffers from overengineering that causes minor annoyances. Chosen mainly because I needed a dependable, cheap car with no BS and no waiting for the right car to be for sale. A good temporary car until my next car, which is... 2010 Camaro V6 6-speed manual: Going to be very impressive, with power, comfort, efficiency, and price all very good. Work trucks: 1997 Ford Econoline 250 - overloaded, beat, crap. 1997 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.1 V6 - Beast that couldn't handle loads very well even with its heavy-duty options, and the 4wd didn't work well 2002 Ford Econoline 250 extended-length - Was very nice when it was brand new. 1997 F350 dually 12' stake body 15,000 pound dumptruck: Currently for sale. |

'96 Dodge Grand Caravan (received free from the in-laws)
'02 Chrysler PT Cruiser (loved this car, but got crap mileage) '02 VW Jetta Wagon TDI (sold when expecting our third, who is now 6 mos. old) '07 Hyundai Entourage (space for the whole family) '90 Toyota Celica ST (because commuting at 16-18MPG costs way too much) I've also had a lot of time driving a few other cars from near family members, but those are the ones I've owned. Unrelated note: If anyone looks at my gaslog and sees the drop I was speculating about, I believe I've found the cause. The e-brake was dragging. I'm the kind of person who sets it every single time I park anywhere, so now I need to unlearn that habit (as it isn't worth the $300 I was quoted to have it fixed--and as it stands right now, it isn't dragging, and it will brake if I pull up on it, so it is now just reserved for actual emergencies, rather than being the parking brake). |

1971 to 1979: A blue 1960 Chevrolet Corvair 4-door Sedan...140 cu in boxer 6 with two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission...slower than anything on the road except a 1969 Austin America. But a nice flat floor, bench seat and really small gearshift lever sticking out of the dashboard...great car for dates! 18-23 mpg (depending on how worn the engine was after I rebuilt it)
1974-1975: 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 4-door sedan with a 283 v8 and two speed Powerglide. Sort of Champagne colored metallic, really pitted windshield. Bought it from a West Covina Cop...found a little baggie w/vegetation under the front seat! A/C cold enough to hang meat in the car! 9-13 mpg. 1977-78: 1965 Plymouth Fury III station wagon, repainted taxicab yellow. 383 2bbl V8, three speed auto. Best handling big car in the world (IMHO), fair A/C. Kinda reminiscent of the Chrysler from B-52's "Love Shack" in appearance and how it was used. When I got it, it had 1/8" gaps in the top piston rings and lots and lots of sludge. But it ran great and passed smog. Got 30 miles to the quart of oil. Six quarts to Santa Barbara (from Glendora)! Did much better after rings and bearings. Another good car for dates (that big bench seat again). 10-18 mpg. 1978-1981: 1972 Mazda RX-2. Ran like a bat out of hell. Crappy mileage for such a little car. 12-16 mpg. 1980-1985: 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente two-door. Like a contemporary Mustang, but with square corners. Bought it off a friend for $100 and a bottle of Blue Nun. Drove it for five years. Traded it for a Honda 550/4, car quit a couple weeks later. Probably just ran out of gas...gas gauge didn't work. 1983-1988: 1965 Chevrolet Van. Old plumber's truck. Cleaned out the backness, carpeted and paneled. Stiff winds on I-10 west of Whitewater would hold me to about 50mph. 15 mpg. 1984-1988: 1962 Rambler American. Needed engine rebuilt, car ran fine after that. Had plans of painting car, re-doing interior and reselling for a profit, wife-to-be moved in and decided we should keep the car. Drove it until it broke. 18-20 mpg. 1985-1988: 1967 Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan. 396 4bbl, three speed auto. Wife-to-be's car. Cops always gave us "the eye" in that car. 8-14 mpg. 1987-1989: 1973 Mazda RX-3 Wagon...bought for $25, nice little drive to vegas car. About 15 mpg. 1988-1990: 1975 Datsun B-210 2-door. Had the usual dents that all these cars have. First good mileage car I had. Wife and I were driving to Vegas one time...I was dozing in passenger seat...woke up to see speedometer needle on 100! Drove until timing chain broke, I've forgotten why I didn't just fix it...27-32 mpg. 1988-1995: 1979 Chevrolet Chevette 4-door. Got about 30 mpg until the car was rear-ended...after that, only about 20 mpg. Car drove straight, coasted fine, stuck like glue to the road on Angeles Crest/Angeles Forest Highways, (probably due to good tires/shocks) never found out why the mileage sucked so bad...One of the few cars I ever sold while it was still running... 1990-1994: 1966 VW Bug. Originally purchased by my father in 1976...car ran very poorly, previous owner was told that it needed a $400 valve job. Dad bought the car for $100, on the assumption, worst case, that if he had to take it to the dealer and get the $400 valve job, he'd still have a good deal. About halfway home, the car started running great...turned out the automatic choke was all gummed up. A few squirts of Gumout fixed it right up. Fast forward to 1990...Dad had been dead for a couple years, and Mom wanted the car outta the driveway. My brother had been driving it and threw a rod. I picked up another "1300" engine for it...actually it was a 36 hp engine with a big bore kit. Made it work, drove it off and on for a couple years, then sold it. About 25 mpg. 1990-2004: 1976 Chevrolet LUV pickup...just a little pickup truck. Got stolen once, I got it back with a much newer battery! Blew head gaskets right and left, even with another engine...18 mpg. 1992-2004: 1977 Volvo 245 Wagon...Nice and shiny, bad seats, wife's car. 18 mpg. 1995-date: 1973 Mazda RX-2...My parents bought this car new. It only has about 60k miles on it now, but it's on its third engine. Also it has been sitting outdoors since the late '70s, so it's pretty disheveled looking, but it is straight as an arrow. Needs fuel pump, carb rebuilt. May need other stuff. Might make someone a cool 4-door race car...went like a raped ape when new. Got to punish a few of my friends at stoplights. Was a lot of fun to make backfire under overpasses and in tunnels! 11-15 mpg. 1995-2005: 1985 Lincoln Continental...bought w/134k miles, wore out at 400k or thereabouts. Had my first mpg computer. 17-24 mpg. 1999-2004: Three different Mopar minivans...nice design, but they kept breaking (maybe 200k+ miles had something to do with that?) About 18 mpg 2003-date: 1984 Lincoln Town Car. Now has busted transmission, gotta get it outta the driveway. 17-19 mpg. 2004-date: 1983 Cadillac Eldorado...see "Oklahoma Rust Bucket" 2007-date: 1991 Geo Metro...see "Former Barbershop Sign" There's probably been a few others, don't remember them all now... |

For being such a Camaro guy, you should know '97 is the 30th Anniversary, and if your car is an anniversary edition, it would've been white w/ orange stripes, no exceptions. I've owned: 1984 Camaro 5.0L A4 (13 mpg city, 16mpg highway) 1991 Plymouth Laser 1.8L M5 (28 mpg mixed) 1994 Camaro Z28 5.7L A4 (21 mpg mixed) 1994 Camaro Z28 5.7L M6 (still own) (17 mpg mixed... car is modded) 1996 Saturn SL2 1.9L A4 (still own) (my first "hypermiler project") 1997 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5L A4 (19 mpg mixed) 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L A4 (17 mpg mixed) |

1) i made the mistake of posting while tired 2) i HATE camaros(all but one was/is the wife's) 3) wife's dream car would be the 2002, which would be 35 years since the first we could be ashamed as well as her present car, 30 year anniversary mystic teal(i believe) w/ white stripes, was left unrecognized as legit . so it seems your "no exceptions" is a bit off. look at our garage(NV)! 30 year decals, stripes, and interior are included. alas, it's just a V6. edit: called chevy about our paint color...it seems it was special order making it more rare than the white car w/ orange stripes. ours' looks sooooo much better than the white BTW. |
All your car lists will pwn mine. I'm in college and still on my first car.
I drive a... (drum roll please) '94 Plymouth Acclaim It's a sweet ride. I get all of the ladies with it. Not really. The cool thing about it is that it was my grandma's old mail car for the rural route. Once she retired she had no use for the car so gave it to me a few years back when i turned 16. It has over 175,000 miles on it right now and the paint is falling off the sides. Apparently, it was a bad year for the paint job on this car. Oh well... It doesn't get bad gas mileage (I haven't really calculated exact), and I'll take free any day. |

1992 to 1998 1980 Olds Cutlus Supreme Right nasty little experimental 8 cylinder 264 block. Should have done a lot better in gas mileage. 12 City and 14/15 Highway. 1998 to 2007 1987 Pontiac Grand Pri RWD. Car should have got 20 mpg avg but I was lucky to avg 13 mpg. Should have walked away from the car when the owner told me he used 20W40 for the oil. I didn't know any better at the time. Current 1989 Cadillac Eldorado 20 mpg on a 225k engine. 1992 Corolla. would still be driving today if that stupid lady trying to get her cell phone didn't hit me 1993 Camry V-6 LE. THE nicest riding car i've ever owned 1984 Tercel. bought for 350. drove to work to keep miles of Camry. didn't lots of HARD driving. sold for 300 the engine blow 1 month later. I warned them i loved to idle higher and higher 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. to say it nicely WORSE CAR EVER. problems from day one to day i sold it. should have never sold the Camry. will not be another american made car again 1997 Tercel. it's Black Hawk the one i drive and is featured in my garage. And a Pontiac Vibe (don't say it, it's not an american car, it's a Toyota Matrix with a different badge on the front. which in turn is a Toyota Corolla) we love the car good space good mpg. my wife drives it since she lives really close to work. keeping the miles off it. |
