23. Mountaineer AWD Gas-sucker - rvanengen 65.80%
24. aleromn - aleromn 65.77%
25. White Whale (92 Accord Wagon) - Geonerd

We should probably look through these to see whose looks realistic, and how they're getting it done. Looking at the 2003 Cavalier - phleas, the only novel idea I see for a modification is this:
Quote:

Removed passenger windshield wiper.
Switch to keep drivers windshield wiper in vertical position
A decent idea for dealing with the wiper issue, though my truck's cracked windshield probably already draws enough attention...

The weird thing, though, is that user "phleas" has never posted. There's lots of entries in his gaslog, and he has comments in many of them.

Drat, I thought that problem had been fixed...

I have been waiting for months for it to be fixed....guess what?

wow, I'm #2 on that list!
I guess I'm doing OK after all.
If you want ideas, check my mods list and gas log. I'm pretty sure it's all there. Just don't ask me to reprogram other ecu's, I'm just a hobbyist.

Some day we shall see a 1998 GMC Sierra K1500 on this list... (I hope)

ucantcme 08-29-2008 07:20 PM

I hope to one day be mentioned in a list like that...But I doubt it

Jay2TheRescue 08-29-2008 07:27 PM

I figure since my EPA combined rating is 13, that all I have to do is get my 90 day average over 21 and I'll be in the top 25. That will be real easy if I take that roadtrip to Florida like I was planning.

Thanks for posting that :) . It would be nice if the owners of the scooters and motorcycles would classify thier vehicles properly so they would be in the right list  .

digression in progress:

how far south do you come?

Sludgy 09-19-2008 03:32 PM

Boo Hoo. EPA doesn't rate trucks over 1/2 ton. The Blue Beast will never be in the "over EPA" category. Even if it got 40 mpg.

Jay2TheRescue 09-19-2008 04:30 PM

My grandparents used to live in Port Orange (Just south of Daytona). I currently have an uncle, and one of my father's cousins live there now. I also have a great uncle that lives in Lake Panasofkee (sp?), but we rarely get a chance to see him. I haven't been down there in about 7 years. I have a few friends that live in the Orlando area, and I think one friend is currently in Tampa. I have no plans on driving to Tampa, but I may try to meet up with some friends somewhere around Orlando, which is about an hour's drive from my grandparent's old house (which is where I'd be staying).

GasSavers_JoeBob 09-19-2008 05:38 PM

I keep slipping lower and lower on this list....:(

Top 25, (er, actually 15...maybe I'll add the other 10 if I get ambitious...) as of 9/19, filtered for recency (entry to gaslog within the past two weeks) and frequency (at least 10 entries)

1. The Metro Experience -- jwxr7 --78.02 MPG(US)
2. Red Jelly Bean -- minic6 -- 61.89 MPG(US)
3. 92 VX -- Rancho VX -- 61.62 MPG(US)
4. R.I.D.E. -- R.I.D.E. 57.99 MPG(US)
5. 99metro -- 99metro -- 56.8 MPG
6. '95 Civic DX hatchback -- cems70 -- 56.49 MPG
7. Piglet II -- iwilltry -- 54.57 MPG
8. The_Silver_Yaris -- Roadrunner -- 53.24 MPG
9. Ford Festiva -- Kraig -- 52.32 MPG
10. HF/DX -- FritzR -- 49.9 MPG
11. Civic VX 1992 -- AlainB7 -- 48.97 MPG
12. 49 MPG CIVIC -- SuperVX -- 48.83 MPG
13. 90 Laser -- DRW -- 48.19 MPG
14. Pregnant Rollerskate -- BailOut -- 48.16 MPG
15. amazing mazda -- 1cheap1 -- 47.98 MPG

If you don't see your car on here, you probably don't have 10 fill-ups yet, or you last entered into your gaslog before September first.

The last car on this list was # 58 on the official list.

BumblingB 09-19-2008 07:07 PM

Yep, I'm #103 on the list but I have logged all 44 tanks of gas I have ever put in my car since new at around 14,600 miles.

A lot of those contenders might not had of done that by letting a tank slip by here and there. ;)

Mr. Pig 09-20-2008 07:27 AM

I've talked to phleas, the owner of the 2003 cavalier a few times via private messages. Seems legit to me and not totally out of the realm of possibility.

I'd drive down just to go to the Port Orange Steak House right by that K-Mart or whatever that shopping mall has for an anchor store.. Seems like a stupid location, but they have great food.

bowtieguy 09-20-2008 04:32 PM

Jay,

i live ~30 min south of orlando. send me a PM if you come down and want to hook-up.

Jay2TheRescue 09-20-2008 04:50 PM

I forget the name of the place, but my grandfather always loved to go to that BBQ place in Port Orange... Sonny's I think? Anyway, I'll let everyone know when I plan on coming down. Right now it looks like November. My roommate has announced he's getting married, and I've been asked to move out by Nov 01. Otherwise I really wanted to go down in a week or 2, but now i'm apartment shopping.

Yeah, Jay, there are a few Sonny's BBQ places in the area. But there is actually a place called the Port Orange Steak House. When we went down to race during Bike Week, we'd usually end up there at least two nights. Just awesome! Even the salad rocked...LOL!

Jay2TheRescue 09-20-2008 06:08 PM

Grandpa never took us there. I'd be willing to try it though. It sounds like its in that plaza with Kmart and Publix @ the intersection of Dunlawton Ave & Nova Rd? It seemed that if we were going out for steak we always went to the Outback on Int'l Speedway Dr.

That sounds right. I know how to get there from the Speedway. The shopping center is on the south west corner of that intersection. They had some kind of coconut shimp appetizer with barbeque sauce with mustard. Was really unique and good. We never lost with anything we ate there.

theholycow 09-21-2008 05:35 AM

You people are making me hungry.

Jay2TheRescue 09-21-2008 05:44 AM

I really hope you're not taking Int'l Speedway drive out to the beach, then taking Dunlawton back out from there. From the raceway just take I-95 south to the next exit. Get off at the Port Orange/Taylor Road exit. Turn left @ the end of the ramp. The intersection of Dunlawton & Nova will be about a mile or 2 ahead.

Yeah, we'd actually take Speedway down a ways, take a right heading south past Embry Riddle. Then all the way down where we took a left. I think there was a custard stand there...which was always funny since we had came from Wisconsin. We had a family that lived on that route that we'd stay with. Then it was a east a little more, then a right.

Chart House was always good, but it was a bit pricey...LOL! Still worth doing once every couple years. Then there was Park too.

Racin's about eating sometimes.

Jay2TheRescue 09-21-2008 05:42 PM

Yeah, you're almost out to the beach. Maybe I'm getting my roads confused, but I'm thinking maybe you're taking Clyde Morris. I-95 is the fastest & shortest way to get there from the speedway.
