Hi guys. I am mostly into big diesels but that has become entirely too costly.
I recently purchased a 1995 Civic VX and I look forward to learning as much as I can here. Maybe if I get this thing running tip-top with the perfect tranny and set it up with the "lean burn"(California model), I'll save enough gas money to afford some diesel. I'm picking it up on Thursday, and I hope to be able to pick some of your brains in the near future.

Welcome, make sure you use the "Garage" feature to record your fuel mileage. It will help you keep track of which mods work best.

I thought that the california version didn't have lean burn and the other version did? not a honda guy myself so I may be a bit backwards on that. there is a huge honda community on this site so I am sure there will be lots of information for you.

You're right, beef. The California model does not have lean burn, due to tighter emissions laws in CA. The 49-state (or federal) VX has lean burn.

Welcome! I'm in WA also, and picked up a VX earlier this spring. I definitely recommend starting a gas log on this site, it helps you keep track of your mpg performance, and you can make notes as you make odifications along the way.

I was getting about 30mpg from my 02 VW Golf, but got kinda tired of its "nuances" and paid cash for a 15 year old, 179k mile, TEAL VX. And I really do love it. Great mpg, easy to work on, should last a while longer (and you can get low-mileage replacement engines pretty cheap, so I hear.)

I've heard it's easy. just change out the ECU and the o2 sensor. possibly a wiring harness.
