Engine type - Skoda Citigo?

Having just registered, I found the 'engine type' in the car type hard to understand.

My car is listed as having a 3 cylinder engine, so that should be L3, right?

May be useful to have a help box next to this item so that clueless non petrol-heads like me can understand it better ;)

I have to admit that I didn't understand why it was written as L4 (for my car), as it actually stands for "Inline 4" rather than V8 for example. The L is used so that there would be no confusion between a capital "i" and the digit "1(one)".

A Skoda Citigo would be an Inline 3 (L3), yes.

Personally I think engine layout is a wierd thing to ask for, but I think it is because it is the distinguishing feature in the USA, whereas here in the UK, it is displacement which is mentioned everywhere (e.g., over there a car salesman may ask 'V6 or V8?' but here it would be '1.6L or 2L?').

Engine layout is not weird to ask for because some cars, the Mustang for example, come in V6 and V8 flavors and they get vastly different numbers. You will want to sort out the engine layout(s) you're not interested in looking for.

But that's also true of displacement. Not to mention 'eco' variants of cars, and neither of these things is stored.

One of my cars has a flat mounted 2 cylinder engine. Confusing huh?

I noticed this as well, the engine types seemed to have been picked by someone who doesn't know anything about cars. They have H for hybrids AND horizontally opposed engines, two completely different engines. O.o

The engine types section needs a fix. Keep requesting it, I'm sure eventually they will hear us. Even if all they did was make the engine types Gas, Diesel, Hybrid CNG, Ethanol or Electric it would clear things up.

Horizontally opposed engines should be marked with a F, not a H. F for flat. My Honda Valkyrie has an opposed 6 engine and its code is the F6, as in Flat-6.

The new F6B Goldwing is a spiritual successor to the Valkyrie (which is based on the Goldwing) follows the same designation, F6 meaning Flat-6.
